The Best and Worst of 2003
As tradition would hold and in accordance with the prophecy, it is now time to partake in my best and worst list of 2003. This year I present a shortened list:
The Best in Movies
1. Finding Nemo - A family movie that strikes the perfect balance in eye candy, acting/voice talent, and a story with some emotional weight. Just add water and you have the best film of 2003!
2. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Another movie that makes you want to sit back and marvel at what the film makers have been able to accomplish. The amazing cast, the eye popping graphical effects and a director that is passionate about the material made this flick the better of the three films and one of the best of 2003.
3. Holes - One of my favorite children’s stories come to the big screen. Even better, the screenplay is written by the author of the book making it a faithful adaptation of the book. The kids were great, heck, I even liked Henry Winkler. Now go read the book, they left out some parts.
4. X2: X-Men United - This was a good year for sequels. The X-Men come back with a story that is more compelling than the first movie. I hope everyone can clear their calendars for X3.
5. A Mighty Wind - The crazy minds behind This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, and Best in Show are at it again in this improvisational mockumentary. This time the gang takes aim at bluegrass music reunions. Please watch your step around the plants.
The Worst in Movies
1. Pirates of the Caribbean - So sue me! I didn’t like it. Strike one: I don’t like pirate movies as a general rule. Strike 2: I wasn’t in the mood for a stupid slapstick comedy. Strike 3: To much eye make-up! Come on! There is plenty of water around to wash that crud off your face.
2. Matrix Revolutions - Way to send this series in the stinker pit (Hello Congo!) Read more reasons why I dislike this movie here.
It appears that the Internet is not functioning here. Good thing I copied and pasted this entry into WordPad before I pushed save because this is the second attempt at getting this posted. For that reason I will cut the list shorter than I had planned on.
However here are some movies I haven’t seen that could change the above lists:
- American Splendor
- Lost in Translation
- Mystic River
- School of Rock
- Elf
- The Last Samurai

Class dismissed!

I’m with you on the Pirates of the Carribean! I think it is waaaaaaaaaaaay overrated and the humor was not all that great. Too much darkness, death and dying for me!

I enjoyed The Last Samurai very much, but found Elf to be iffy. Your comment about not being in the mood for slapstick humour rang true for Elf. I haven’t seen Pirate of the Carribean yet.

Matrix Reveloutions was horrible and destroyed the whole series for me… However I really enjoy Pirates of the Carribean and think your review of it is simply stupid and way off to be honest about it. But I like pirate movies, so sue me!
Well now that I had blunt moment of the day, I shall move on with life.
