So Long Charles
It really is Monday right? (As of the time that I write this.) I have a tendency to loose track of time during the summer months. If someone asks me what day of the week it is during the summer, it is a one in seven shot that I am going to say the correct day.
Today, I ran back into Rolla. It was the first day of summer school, so I got to see a few kids from last year and a few that I will be having next year. I also went to work on some computers in the school, however, I am not paid to be the tech contact during the summer months. In fact, I had a hankerin’ just to let it go, but one teacher was not happy that I was going to drive 45 miles to work on her computer immediately. Yeah, sorry. I gave in and went up today, I should have printed out a bill for my services.
My main goal was to check in on Charles. (A note about that link, it goes to the search results for Charles on this blog so not all entries there may not pertain to him but if you are not familiar with him, you may want to start here.) I wanted to see how he was coping without his EMH teacher of the past four or fives years, and as what is probably the last Charles story here at WIT goes, he was doing just fine and seemed well adjusted. He was very happy to see me and immediately ran over to hug me while yelling my name, in typical Charles fashion.
So long Charles, you will be missed at Wyman and I hope your new teachers see what a wonderful kid you are.
This last year I had another very, very special EMH student that I didn’t tell you all about because this student’s disability was much more pronounced and obvious than Charles, but you can be sure I will miss not seeing her in my class everyday. Next year, I get the pleasure of having two more EMH students. Yes, God has blessed me.
After I got back from Rolla, I was invited to talk to a group of teachers from my Mom’s school about blogs and how they can be used in education. It was a good time and I think several of the teachers were quite interested in using the technology somehow. The workshop leader is using a blog this summer with summer school students. You can see that blog here. The kids in that class love it.
(It was also nice to completely ignore the curriculum administrator’s speech about the importance of the Missouri Show Me standards, Frameworks, and GLEs. I didn’t work there, so I didn’t listen. Far too much breath has been wasted on such topic anyway. The fact that I didn’t have to listen was quite liberating.)
Class dismissed!

After all you’ve told us about him, I think most of us will miss Charles too
