Look Up
A story shared during one of my track meetings today; I hadn’t heard it before now.
One of the guys in the group shared an observation from a friend in his that lives in New York City. They were discussing how easy it was to distinguish between New Yorkers and tourists. A tourist is easily spotted because they are the people walking around looking up at everything going on. The New Yorkers however, looks down just trying to get from one place to another. They surmised that the tourists are gawking and marveling at the city and all the things that can’t be seen anywhere else. The New Yorkers on the other hand, are used to all the sights of the city and are just going about their business not paying any attention to all there is to see.
If we bring that analogy over to the Christian life, sadly, I can say that I identify with the New Yorkers who duck their heads and charge ahead, not taking the time to gawk and marvel at who God is. I have an agenda that has to be met, an agenda, that I may or may not have consulted with God in the first place. I go throughout the day without really acknowledging who God is and what he has done for me.
It is the goal for this week to not be a complacent Christian. I don’t want to move through this week, moving mindlessly from one scheduled item to the next, taking God for granted. This week I want take some time to be still and look up.
As for next week, well I will take that on when I get there.
So don’t forget to look up sometime this week and enjoy God.
Later taters!

I went to Chicago with one of my friends once, he had been there before, I hadn’t. As we were walking around downtown, he told to stop looking up, I looked like a tourist
It’s always nice to stop and take breath, and meditate on God in all His awsomeness. “Be still and know that I am God” or as a plaque my wife paraphrases that: “Chill.. and know that I am…”
